Sideways (2004)

This week, we’ve got my absolute favorite Paul Giamatti movie, Sideways. It’s a well-written but also hilarious movie where an extremely depressed Paul Giamatti begrudgingly helps his college roommate philander his way through northern California wine country. It has some all-time classic Giamatti moments that we can’t wait to talk about. Get Sideways with us this on this podcast.

Pickle Me This - S05E08 – Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort

Here’s the continuity you’ve been looking for. We finally deal with the tragedy of Rick’s artificially preserved best friend, Birdperson in an episode loosely based on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Check out the podcast to hear us hypothesize about the canon implications of this episode, among other things, and join us back here during the week of September 5th for the back-to-back airing of the final two season 5 episodes.

The Suicide Squad (2021)

What a difference a word, and one excellent writer / director, makes! The Suicide Squad is a complete 360 from the steaming pile of garbage that was Suicide Squad. It’s fun, action-packed, ultra-violent and everything we would hope to see from the evolution of subversive superhero movies.

Forrest Gump (1994)

Forrest Gump is an artifact of a more innocent age; a time before Tom Hanks learned to make fire. Before Robin Wright made binge-watching a lifestyle. Before Hollywood acknowledged that Pulp Fiction had changed the way audiences engaged with movies. Join us for the podcast to take a trip back in time and find out if this Academy darling still holds up.

This week we talk about the first 2 episodes of Ted Lasso’s latest season, the first Foundation novel and a bit about our hopes / expectations for the Apple TV+ series, Schmigadoon!, The Pacific, Zola, and Shadow and Bone. Plus, we answer questions from our Patreon “Executive Producers” about our plans for future coverage and whether we think great long-form stories on TV are killing shorter-form stories in movies.
