Are you ready?! Badass Fest VI is here and all month long Jim and A.Ron are bringing you the biggest, baddest, and burliest action movies! Kicking off the celebration is Jim and A.Ron’s coverage of Drunken Master II recorded in front of an audience of Bald Movers.
The Raid 2, directed by Gareth Evans, is a stomach-churning follow up to The Raid: Redemption (2011). Jim and A.Ron chat about their relationship with this franchise and their impressions on this sequel. It features Indonesian martial arts, a great cast, and every single action trope. Viewers are warned that the violence in this film is brutal.
Dredd (2012) is already well-loved by Jim and A.Ron. This project was brought to you by Pete Travis (Vantage Point) and Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Days Later). Find out how this action, sci-fi created a whole world with the minimum number of sets and actors. The effects are equal parts stunning and gruesome. Though this movie stars Karl Urban and Lena Headey, the slow motion might have stolen the show.
The Artemis was built on rules. Tonight they’re getting broken. Jim and A.Ron dive into the overlooked 2018 action/sci-fi thriller at the recommendation of their producer Talitha. The three of them will discuss the highs and lows of this hidden gem. Between the star-studded cast, amazing design, and tight script, there’s a whole underworld to uncover behind the doors of The Artemis.
Robert DeNiro, playing bounty hunter Jack Walsh, chases down a man called “The Duke”. What is supposed to be an easy grab quickly deteriorates into a messy, action-packed cross-country road trip. With both the mob and the FBI on his tail, Jack must get The Duke from New York to Los Angeles in a matter of days.
Don’t blame us, we had never seen The Long Kiss Goodnight! We put this movie up on Patreon as an option for our weekly Executive Producer poll to determine what movie we would cover and they picked it over Mr. Holland’s Opus and The Ghost and the Darkness. This probably doesn’t belong in the Prestige category but we hope you’ll be willing to have a little fun with us in this Geena Davis and Sam Jackson amnesiatic-assassin movie.

We’ve seen The Matrix Resurrections and the only thing we want to say is “not bad”. Seriously, we don’t want to spoil anything for you and there’s a lot going on in this movie. You might want to see it again or, like Jim, you might want to see another sequel before you make up your mind about this one, but at the very least it’s more enjoyable than either of the previous Matrix sequels. What a difference a word, and one excellent writer / director, makes! The Suicide Squad is a complete 360 from the steaming pile of garbage that was Suicide Squad. It’s fun, action-packed, ultra-violent and everything we would hope to see from the evolution of subversive superhero movies.
