Greetings X-Philes! Jim and A.Ron begin their coverage of the six episode mini-series version of the X-Files with a bit of a preview podcast, to get the feeds primed and pumping for this weekend’s premiere. We discuss our history with the X-Files, favorite episodes, and hopes and fears for the weeks ahead. Our coverage of the first episode airing on Fox the evening of Sunday, January 24th, will be out Tuesday, January 26th! See you then.
You like the idea of Lunch with Jim and A.Ron but can’t watch at work or live on the other side of the globe or otherwise feel temporally displaced? We might have a solution for you, OtRwJ&A. It’s LWJ&A, but 8 hours later! It’s Lunch for Australians! Whatever you call it, it’s going to be bi-weekly-ish, on at 9PM EST, and we’ll be drinking and interacting with you via the Q&A google app.
This week your intrepid hosts keep it real as they talk about all aspects of life and death. From David Bowie to Amy’s dad to whether it’s cool to kill bugs in your house (spoiler: if they’re big, YES!). Amy tells the spooky tale of PossumSloth while Susan follows it with her spooky tale of…
It’s a rip-roarin’ zombie adventure with TONS of heart. We watched Shaun of the Dead this week and used it as an opportunity to have deep existential conversations. This comedy where a kid has to blow his mom’s head off, contemplate suicide, and make amends with his dying step-father was a real treat! Join us next week as we watch Hot Fuzz.
It’s the first LWJ&A of 2016! We spent a lot of time over the break playing video games and watching TV. Who could have guessed?? We talk all about Batman: Arkham City, Pocket Mortys, Jim’s wire bonsai tree, expiration dates on food, Chipotle poisoning 53 people, and a whole lot more.
Cecily and A.Ron say goodbye to the “Hotel” era of “American Horror Story” as we cover the finale episode number 512, “Be Our Guest”. Lots of questions get answered, lots more get swept by the wayside, but overall we were surprised and impressed with the amount of emotion and heart Murphy and Company brought to the proceedings.
Special thanks once again to Aaron Spaulding, who for his double commission feature selected the wonderful, weird, and fully preposterous Luc Besson joint “The Fifth Element”, of which Jim and I are very familiar with. We delve into the depths of Jim’s annoyance with Ruby, while A.Ron explains how he quit worrying and learned to love the Rodd, Besson’s partly crazy, partly insightful look into life in the 24th century, and spend quite a bit of time analyzing the lead actors Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, and Gary Oldman.
A.Ron is joined once again by Shayne Bowman from the Heisenberg Chronicles and Film Schlubs to discuss the latest season of Cinemax’s The Knick. We discuss our feelings on the themes and characters of season 2, the future of The Knick, Cinemax, and the art of film in general. Thanks for helping us out, Shayne!
Jim and A.Ron ponder the highs and lows of the 2015 Baldies as an event, and talk about their long term plans to make 2016 bigger, better, and more fun.
