The Rings of Power - S02E01 – Elven Kings Under the Sky
It’s a solid start to the season with solid characterizations, beautiful landscapes, and only a couple minor pet peeves.

How difficult was it to claim Harrenhal in the book? And much Alys Rivers was there? And it’s really only that many paragraphs? I guess it’s a good thing we also have your feedback and some bonus readings on the dragon pit! This week’s reading: Daemon Takes Harrenhal: pg.412 through pg.413 Battle of the Burning…
What happens when you have an unrepentant killer as a protagonist? The Sword of Doom (1966) directed by Kihachi Okamoto won’t give you the answer to that question, but will give you plenty of time to consider it. This work of ultra-violent mayhem serves as inspiration for many western action flicks. Unpack this work of…
This episode is excellent on rewatch. Daemon is interesting again. The Alicent vs. Rhaenyra showdown is superb. Simon Strong is the perfect addition to an already stellar cast.
Lunchtime! Talitha is away for the second week and boy, do we really misbehave this time! And I can already hear you saying… “go on.” And that’s exactly what we intend to do in this extended edition of LWJ&A.
Well, they’ve remade The Crow. I’m not sure who asked for this considering most of the movie-going public has probably never even seen the movie and for many of those who have, it holds a special place in their heart. A place that probably hides a bit of teenage angst and / or trauma. A place that they probably don’t want opened up and mined for dollars. But I guess this is just for the people in the goldilocks zone of the fandom, who don’t identify with the movie enough to be offended by a remake. And this podcast might just be the best test for which group you’re in.
We’re back for another season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Surprised? The first season was a pretty rocky, but we’re hoping they can tighten things up a bit and lean into what worked. We’ll see soon enough. Join us for a quick refresher and some trailer and casting talk before…
Lets revisit Arryk Cargyll’s mission, recontextualize Aegon’s hissy fit and Otto’s scheming, and maybe splash in a little bit of Daemon that is shuffled around in the show as we cover the sections of Fire & Blood that are relevant to “Rhaenyra the Cruel.” This week’s reading: pg.428 p.2 through pg.430 p.3 and pg.431 p.2…
From director Jonathan Lynn comes the rare courtroom comedy. My Cousin Vinny stars Joe Pesci, Marisa Tomei, Fred Gwynne, and…Ralph Macchio? The cast chemistry is exquisite, the writing is hilarious, and Marisa Tomei won an Oscar for her performance. The question isn’t “Will the Karate Kid be put to death?”, the question is “How will Joe Pesci get him out of this?”
