HOTD: A House of the Dragon Podcast - 302 – Dark Wings, Dark Words

Jim and A.Ron do a retrospective review of HBO’s Game of Thrones episode, “Dark Wings, Dark Words”, same format, we first do a non-spoiler review then get in depth and spoilery at the end of the podcast. We discuss the Reed children who make their first appearance this episode, analyze Shae and Tyrion’s relationship, fear for Margaery’s life as she tries to dance around the psychotic Joffrey, and catch up with Arya, Jaime, Brienne, and Robb. Thanks for all the great participation this week! Next week we’ll be dealing with an abbreviated mailbag due to our travel plans, but that just means a super sized feedback the week after!

Bald Move Prestige - Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Thanks to Paul Kilgore, who commissioned this podcast for his wife Alexandra in honor of her favorite movie, the 2005 adaptation of Jane Austin’s Pride & Prejudice. I’ve never seen this particular version but am familiar with the source and other adaptations and like historical fiction in general, while Jim had no idea what to expect. What will we make of some early 19th century high romance? Is it physically possible for Keira Knightley to play a plain Jane, err, Elizabeth? What does culturally enforced manogamy look like in practice? How did English noblemen acquire such impressive art from the antiquities? Were 30 foot high water fountains even possible in the 1800s? All this and more is pondered!

Bald Move Pulp - Sharp Objects Ep. 2 – “Dirt”

We’re back for more discussion of HBO’s miniseries, Sharp Objects, discussing the second episode, “Dirt”. But it turns out we can’t resist the siren call of discussing “all of television” as we do a deeper dive than is truly necessary on the 2018 Emmy nominations, as well as talk about the Stranger Things season 3 teaser that just dropped. We just can’t help ourselves!

Bald Move Pulp - Skyscraper (2018)

Jim and A.Ron are back with another first run Bald Move, this time taking in The Rock’s latest family friendly action flick, “Skyscraper”. Die Hard + Towering Inferno = a pretty damn engaging and entertaining action film, smarter than most, and with plenty of heart courtesy Dwayne Johnson’s charisma and chemistry with co-star (and fellow badass) Neve Campbell. You’re going to be able to predict most beats of the film from the first 10 minutes, but it’s still a pleasure to watch Mr. Johnson do his thing. The flaming 220 story building against the dramatic back drop of Hong Kong serves up several great set pieces and looks great doing it.

HOTD: A House of the Dragon Podcast - 301 – Valar Dohaeris

Jim and A.Ron are back for the summer re-watch of HBO’s Game of Thrones season 3. Might as well start at the beginning, with episode 301, “Valar Dohaeris”. Daddy’s back in town, which is an interesting dynamic which finds Tyrion and Cersei trying to find their place, Margaery attempts to win over the peoples’ hearts and minds, Jon sells his role as double agent, and Dany struggles with the morality of liberating a continent using slave labor. All this, plus lots of feedback! See you next week…

Bald Move Pulp - Sharp Objects Ep. 1 – “Vanish” and HBO Talk

Jim and A.Ron are here to talk about HBO. Both in general terms, because we’re not big fans of the way the new executive overseeing the network is talking about our baby, and in specifics, namely the new mini-series, Sharp Objects. Based on the novel by Gillian Flynn, it features Amy Addams as a journalist who returns to the small town she grew up in to investigate a series of killings. Giving us strong True Detective vibes, the mystery is intriguing and the characters are vivid and well developed just one episode in. We’ll be back with weekly coverage of Sharp Objects, if you’d like to join the conversation, use the links below!

HOTD: A House of the Dragon Podcast - Season Three Preview!

We’re back to ambush your podcast feeds with a summer re-watch of HBO’s Game of Thrones season three! If you’ve seen the show, you know this is a red banner year for the series with tons of the twists and tragedies we’ve come to expect. And if this is your first time through, relax! We’ll be doing our level best to keep all spoilers for future episodes and seasons confined to the very end of the podcast where you can easily skip them.  For this, our season three kick off, please enjoy the live podcast we taped in front of an audience at the awesome Con of Thrones from Dallas this year. We’ll be back next week with full coverage of the season three premiere, “Valar Dohaeris”! Got feedback? Send it in using the links below and we might consider it on air!

Watching Westworld - Season Two Wrap Up

Season two of Westworld is in the books. It was a bit of a rough, uneven experience for us, and we suspect from the vast amount of feedback we got this past week, a lot of you as well. But, the bones of Westworld are still sound, and the table is set for season three to be more expansive and interesting than the at time claustrophobic and confusing season two. We discuss our hopes and fears for next season, discuss some leading though on simulations, brain scans, and AI before considering lingering thoughts and questions from our fellow fans. By all accounts it’s going to be a long wait for next season, but we hope to see you back then!
