Bald Move TV – The Deuce – S03E01 – The Camera Loves You

HBO’s The Deuce is back! We rejoin our mixed crew of hustlers on the Eve of 1985. The strip itself seems a bit less bright, and a good deal more dangerous, even as powerful big-money interests have high-class aspirations for the neighborhood. This premiere is a marvel of efficient storytelling and character re-introductions, introducing various threats to the community; wolfpacks, AIDS, home video recording, that will be impacting the lives and livelihoods of The Deuce denizens for the rest of the series. Bald Move TV – Harlots – 301 – Episode 1

A.Ron and Cecily are here to peddle podcasts for Hulu’s very lush, very fun, Harlots, back now for it’s third tawdry season. We run down all of our favorite characters and their positions and predicaments. How will Charlotte (Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown-Findlay) defend her burning bawdy house from the rash advances of London’s latest pimp Isaac Pincher, played by the always punchable face of Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones Theon Greyjoy)? How will high society deal with Lady Fitz’ (Liv Tyler) embrace of her sordid past? And will Lucy’s dabbling in the molly boy trade put her neck in the noose? We’ll find out in the weeks ahead!

Quit Yer Pitchin – S03E01

This is a podcast where Jim and I, using tools created for the purpose, randomly generate a title for a fictional TV show. We then pitch ideas to each other based on what that show would be like if it were real. We like to call it, “Quit Yer Pitchin’!”

The World We Deserve – 301 & 302 – The Great War and Modern Memory & Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye

We’ve checked out the first two episodes of HBO’s True Detective season three, and there is so much to talk about! Reliable unreliable narrators, parallel time structures, two macho, damaged cops who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and get hands on with crime, and in the center, a missing persons case with strange, unexplained details. It feels a lot like season one, but Mahershala Ali brings a stellar performance to a character that is dealing with post-war trauma and racism in middle America. And don’t get us started on moon phases!

Game of Thrones – 301 – Valar Dohaeris

Jim and A.Ron are back for the summer re-watch of HBO’s Game of Thrones season 3. Might as well start at the beginning, with episode 301, “Valar Dohaeris”. Daddy’s back in town, which is an interesting dynamic which finds Tyrion and Cersei trying to find their place, Margaery attempts to win over the peoples’ hearts and minds, Jon sells his role as double agent, and Dany struggles with the morality of liberating a continent using slave labor. All this, plus lots of feedback! See you next week…

Beltalowda – 301 – Fight or Flight

Jim and A.Ron are very impressed with the premiere of the third season of SyFy’s The Expanse, “Fight or Flight”.  Great special effects and even better writing, much depends on the complex balance of politics across the solar system, and between the crew of the Rocinante Pinus Contorta.  Anytime you can mix great drama with spectacular action sequences you’ve got a hit in our books, and we’re thrilled to have The Expanse back in our lives!

Mr. Robot – 301 – eps3.0_power-saver-mode.h

Jim and A.Ron discuss the premier of season 3 of USA’s Mr. Robot, “eps3.0_power-saver-mode.h”.  We’re glad to see Mr. Robot return with an intriguing, plot forwarding episode that is a pleasure to watch.  We really enjoyed newcomer Bobby Canavale’s turn as the sleazy fixer Irving, we’re loving the more bold hints of sci-fi wackadoo stuff to come, and the new relationships between Mr. Robot, Eliot, Angela and Darlene.  Can’t wait for more, and to find out what everyone else thinks!
