Bald Move Pulp - Twin Peaks (1990)

This community commissioned podcast is for the 1990 television series, Twin Peaks. Created Mark Frost and David Lynch, we can only imagine the impact this had on audiences 30 years ago as 30 million Americans obsessively tuned in every week to answer the question, “who killed Laura Palmer?” Jim ultimately doesn’t like it, but I see it’s potential and got a lot of enjoyment from the crazy tonal swings and quirky, off beat nature. Also, lots of beautiful and interesting people on screen constantly, which always helps.

American Gangster (2007)

Special thanks to our commissioner Josh “Anubus21” from Saxapahaw, NC. This time he has something special to celebrate, his marriage to sweetheart Jessica. Congratulations, you guys! Josh selected American Gangster, the 2007 Ridley Scott crime drama starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Jim and I have never seen it, but it immediately fit right besides other greats like Godfather, Goodfella, Casino, and Scarface in the pantheon of films about the criminal underworld. It’s a great looking, well written, and extraordinarily acted film, that touches on a lot of Bald Move hot buttons of racism, crime, drugs, and $50k mink coats. Thanks again, Josh and Jessica! Enjoy your honeymoon!

Bald Move Pulp - Who Won the Week?! – Round 6

You know the drill.  Three shows enter, (HBO’s The Leftovers, FX’s Fargo, and AMC’s Better Call Saul) one show makes it out wearing the crown, taking the gold, hoisting the belt, etc.  Another tough week with some epic losses of great characters on multiple shows.  The big question on our minds; can anyone stop The Leftovers in their final two weeks?

Fargo - 306 – The Lord of No Mercy

Jim and A.Ron are floored at the surge of pacing on the back half of this season’s Fargo, as typified in “The Lord of No Mercy”. Shocking events unfold as our hero, the technically challenged Gloria Burgle, goes head to head with the master of cyber sleuthing, VM Varga. Plus, what’s Nikki’s play? Does Emmitt have a change of heart and begin resisting Varga’s take over of his parking lot empire, or does the tragic accident of this episode wash away his humanity for good? Is this week’s frame-job this season’s Fishnado/UFO, or are we in for some more unlikely incidents and coincidence? All this and more in this week’s podcast!

Better Cast Saul - 307 – Expenses

“Expenses”, the latest installment of AMC’s Better Call Saul, is a workman-like connective episode that really develops the themes of this season while delivering superior performances. We discuss Mike’s motivations to help the Cobbler / Nacho, Jimmy getting way too in to his mock scam of some dick who’s particular about his martinis, Kim’s difficulty in dealing with her help in tearing down a sick man, before delving into the depths of our Scotch ignorance in the mailbag.

Following The Leftovers - 306 – Certified

Jim and A.Ron talk about the latest episode of The Leftovers, “Certified”. A very dark, powerful episode that has us rethinking how much sunshine and good feelings the finale is going to allow us to have before everything is said and done. We discuss when Laurie decided on her final course of action, Nora’s beach ball metaphor, the inability of Kevin Sr. to properly judge whether he ends up saving the world, and our thoughts and expectations for the end now that we’re only 2 episodes away. Because happy ending or sad, we’re going to be forced to say goodbye to all these characters we’ve grown to love and care for, and I for one am not ready!
