Bald Move Pulp is where you can get your fix of robots, aliens, action space adventures, and everything in between; on television or on the big screen. Pulp was not made for serious drama, if that’s your thing, you might be looking for Bald Move Prestige.
Jim and A.Ron have seen the latest potential summer blockbuster; Independence Day: Resurgence, and found it roughly as dumb as it’s predecessor but minus quite a bit of the humor, charm, and charisma of the original.
Special thanks to Dave Dillon for commissioning the 1980s hit television series, Magnum P.I. We weren’t sure what to expect, but after seeing the two part series premiere, “Don’t Eat the Snow in Hawaii”, we’re ready to recognize the greatness of the Mustachioed One. From war scenes that Punch waaayyyy above their weight, to Magnum perving on French Stews, we found the series consistently entertaining.
A.Ron and Jim saw The Conjuring 2 tonight, and thought it had some solid thrills and chills. We give our overall impressions and review up front, then discuss the many new trailers we saw before the film, before finally getting down and dirty in a no holds barred spoiler section. It’s that time again, time for Jim and A.Ron to review the latest comic book movie! This up is Bryan Singer’s latest; X-Men Apocalypse. The big problem with this film is that it’s just an okay comic book film, and we just don’t think that’s good enough in a world where there’s six multi-million dollar comic boom films per year, especially in a year with Deadpool and Captain America 3. Your mileage may vary, depending on how big a comic book fan you are, in particular how big of an X-Men fan you are. Jim and A.Ron review the first episode of Cinemax’s Outcast series, executive produced and based on a comic book by Robert Kirkman, of The Walking Dead fame/infamy. Then we spend a few minutes laughing at the latest season of Silicon Valley, on HBO. Spoilers ahoy, so step cautiously and let the following timecodes be your guide…
A.Ron and Cecily bid a fond farewell to Banshee as it, despite all fears to the contrary, manages to pull out of its near fatal tailspin long enough to land a fairly emotionally satisfying, and undeniably badass, series finale. We talk about the many fights, goodbyes, plus the tears and blood shed in this packed episode “Requiem”, and we give our fellow #fanshees their final say as well. But mostly, I think we’ll all remember one simple truth: A.Ron was right.
Special thanks to Fernando Rodriguez, who commissioned the 1985 classic kid’s adventure movie, “The Goonies”. Directed by Richard Donner with a script by Chris Columbus, this movie really brings us back to our child hood days, which leads to us spending time fondly reminiscing about the film and growing up, and of course obsessively picking nits and busting “The Goonies” balls. Which of course, is our mothers’ favorite part. Stay tuned til the end as we invite a surprise guest to give their opinions as well!
Cecily and A.Ron are not happy with Banshee right now, and episode 407, “Truths Other Than The Ones You Tell Yourself” is a showcase for why. Proctor now is involved in federal corruption that almost literally goes all the way to the top. Hood can be snuck up on by a disgraced plastic surgeon with a wrench. Law enforcement, including the FBI, can’t track one of their agent’s cell phones. Cruz gets murdered in the first seconds of the episode and NOT by Carrie. Everyone is acting their asses off and the show still looks great, but it has totally lost it’s mind. Check back with us next week when we finally get the epic Proctor versus The Rest show down we’ve been wanting. Please?
In episode 406 of Cinemax’s Banshee, “Only One Way a Dogfight Ends”, Satan worshipers get pyrotechnic, the Neo-nazis flex on the Amish gangster, Veronica gets locked up in a human torture/sacrifice chamber, and… A.Ron and Cecily wonder when we’re going to start caring. While individual parts of the show are still good, specifically the action and Job, we worry the heart of the show that elevated it above your typical brainless action-adventure show has simply been ripped out by a fakey Lucifer with four lame “horns”. We make the best of it and then consider some community feedback, but ultimately we’re crossing our fingers that Banshee pulls out all the stops and makes this last season worth in in the final two episodes.
Jim and A.Ron have seen Captain America: Civil War, and they really, really liked what they saw. It was fun, weighty, maybe a bit long with the usual seeming plot holes (which comic fans can probably fill), but nothing that comes close to threatening to stop the runaway hype train that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We give you a fairly detailed non-spoiler review, before considering the many highly entertaining trailers that ran up front, and then finally, getting around to our no holds barred spoiler section.
