The World We Deserve - 207 – Black Maps and Motel Rooms
Another solid episode prompts us to talk about Season 2’s pacing, the trail of blue diamonds, the fate of the central characters and what a Season 3 starring Jim Carrey might look like.

Kelly Anneken of Up Yours, Downstairs! and Family Meeting fame joins me once again for a super sized podcast for the 90 minute season three finale of Orange is the New Black, “Trust No Bitches”. We discuss our overall feelings about the third season, hate on Piper, Alex and Healy, share our joy at Black Cindy’s moving conversion to Judaism, debate the merits of working for one’s parents, and much, much more. It’s a podcast more colorfully deadly than a Jolly Rancher shiv, and it’s coming your way.
“I Feel Terrible”? “Incredible Foot Therapy”? What could I.F.T possibly stand for?
Nina from Project Fandom once again joins me to break down the latest episode of Orange is the New Black, number 312, “Don’t Make Me Come Back There.” In it we discuss how awesome of a mother Tastee is, in direct contrast to how awful a mother Aleida is, our shared, deep, and abiding love for corn on the cob, our dissatisfaction with Ruby Rose’s stint on Orange, and the tragic, heinous treatment of our favorite prison stylist, Sophia. Oh, and there’s some stuff with Piper and Alex in there, too.
Cecily joins me once again to recap episode 311 of “Orange is the New Black”, entitled “We Can Be Heroes”. This episode is all about the origin story of Beercan, and how nice guys can finish last, and how doing the right thing should be it’s own reward. Boo gives Pennsatucky some tough love, and Piper continues her climb to the top of the prison industrial panty complex.
True Detective shifts into a higher gear this week with a tense, well-directed episode and we have the opinions to match. We talk about how bad of an idea it was to infiltrate the party, what Ray should or shouldn’t do about his kid, whether Frank is a poor negotiator, and much more.
This week we talk about fun stuff, like sweaty sex and parking lots, but not sweaty sex IN parking lots because ew. Then Amy brings it down and talks about the latest with her dad. But that’s TBS, keepin’ it real even when reality is a bummer. Let’s all get through this one together. Sound…
Our coverage of season 3 moves on with episode 302, “Caballo sin Nombre”. Walt moves back in, the cousins move out, Jesse makes a first home purchase, and pizzas are tossed.
Many thanks to Em from the No Ship Network (purveyors of fine podcasts on Vikings, Spartacus, Penny Dreadful, and more) for commissioning this podcast, covering the 1999 psycho-sexual drama, “Holy Smoke”. Directed by Jane Campion (“The Piano”, Top of the Lake”) and starring Kate Winslet and Harvey Kietel, it starts off as an intriguing and campy telling of a young girl being deprogrammed from a cult experience, and then… turns into something else entirely. Lots of at times uncomfortable discussion about power imbalances in relationships, masculinity and femininity, and what we’re supposed to take away from the film, if anything. Thanks again, Em! It was an experience worth experiencing! If you’re curious about the film, it is available on Netflix, Amazon, and iTunes for streaming.
Amy from The Because Show joins A.Ron to discuss episode 310, “A Tittin’ and a Hairin'”. Things get pretty real, raw, and dark for one Pennsatucky, and we don’t shy away from discussing our feelings about it. Aside from THAT, there are a few moments of levity, such as Red’s rattaouie revelation, Black Cindy’s ongoing quest for Judaism, and Leanne’s not-so-subtle take over of the Cult of Norma. All this and much more, coming your way.
