Picard is in denial about a major personal discovery. Raffi goes rogue for better or worse. The deflector dish looks oddly familiar. What’s the deal with Shaw? Is Beverly a warlord? Will all of these plot lines and details pay off by the end of the season? A.Ron and Jim are steeped in Star Trek lore, don’t worry, they’ll pause and explain their jokes when they need to.
Jack Nicholson, already 20 years into his career, stars as a patient in a mental institution. Nurse Ratched, a sick and twisted caregiver, rules the ward. A young Danny DeVito will impress you. The movie itself will gaslight you. And the treatment of the mentally ill will horrify you, but it’s not the 21st century, so it’s expected.
The emotional damage is high this episode. After the horrors of clickers, raiders, and the Kansas City QZ, Joel and Ellie arrive in Jackson, Wyoming. There are family reunions and safety in this peaceful settlement, but there’s trouble in paradise. Joel considers parting ways with Ellie, and understandably, Ellie is upset. Jim wasn’t impressed, but A.Ron had fun, so it’s a lively discussion.
