The Godfather: Part II (1974) – 50th Anniversary Rerelease

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece, The Godfather: Part II, Bald Move is rereleasing their coverage. Jim and A.Ron do another deep dive into the world of Coppola’s The Godfather, this time looking at Part II, which celebrates it’s 40th anniversary tomorrow. A darker, more brooding, more intricate film that it’s predecessor, we struggle to answer the question, which is better? Along the way we play a lot of what if’s and comparisons. Clemenza or Pentangeli? Vito or Michael? Brando or De Niro? When did Vito decide to be the Don? What is Tom and Michael’s relationship at the end? Where did Michael go wrong? DID Michael go wrong? All this and much more is contemplated in this mammoth two hour podcast, for your holiday enjoyment. Hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed recording it.

Mean Streets (1973) 50th Anniversary

Jim and A.Ron are diving into one of Martin Scorsese’s earliest films; Mean Streets. It was the Pulp Fiction of its day, it paved the way in pop music soundtracks, and was the foundation of Scorsese’s signature style. A young Robert De Niro stars as a loose cannon getting mixed up in all the wrong kinds of trouble. Get your fix of behind the scenes trivia in this anniversary episode of Bald Move Prestige.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

This atypical romcom is the story of two broken people helping each other. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper play characters in the throes of their mental illnesses. David O. Russell adapted and directed this project, and JLaw won her first Oscar playing Tiffany. With such a high pedigree in cast and director, it’s no surprise that this film delivers on every front. And yes, it is a Christmas film.

The Untouchables (1987)

This movie stars Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Andy Garcia, Robert De Niro, and Patricia Clarkson in Al Capone’s Prohibition Era Chicago. The story is based on the memoirs of Eliot Ness, an American Prohibition agent bent on taking down Al Capone. Though Costner leads, Connery steals the show. This is one of the movies with iconic lines that you’ve heard, but aren’t sure where they’re from.

Backdraft (1991)

Stop, drop, and roll! This movie is coming in hot. Hollywood stalwarts (and Billy Baldwin) battle with an anthropomorphic fire. But wait, there’s more! There’s a crazed arsonist on the loose. Shoulder your ax and tune in for a somewhat hacky movie that also shows the horrors of being burned to death.
