In honor of The Fugitive being released 30 years ago today, we’re doing a special rerelease of this pod so you can experience the heart-pounding chase all over again! Special thanks to DrKen (previous commissioner of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance) for commissioning this great thriller from the 90’s, The Fugitive, starring Harrison Ford as brilliant doctor wrongfully accused of the murder of his wife evading the dogged pursuit of Tommy Lee Jones as U.S. Marshal. This is one of the tightest films you’ll ever see, effortlessly moving from one set piece to another, drawing strength and vitality from the charisma and presence of it’s two brightest stars, achieving the rare balance where you want the protagonist and antagonist to find a way to both win. We have fond memories of this film from our youth, and we found it held up like Ford’s Finger ‘O Doom. Thanks again, DrKen! If you ever have to evade justice, we got a couple of bucks and a bed in the basement for you!

Next up in the Badass lineup is Demolition Man! Sylvester Stallone (badass status pending) and Wesley Snipes star in a movie that came out at the tail end of roided-up action flicks. San Angeles is a utopia/dystopia full of the ultimate cringe in laws, logic, and slang. And Stallone isn’t having it. The cops release Snipes to take down the swearing, violent Stallone. Watch these two rampage across the nanny state.
Let’s take a dive into Scorsese’s catalog to a movie with those signature crane shots and quick cuts, but with an extremely low body count. The exploration of love and longing within a rigid world is portrayed by epic performances from Daniel Day Lewis, Michelle Pfieffer, and Winona Ryder and camerawork that speaks as much as the characters. In this odd child of Scorsese’s body of work, you’re sure to find swoon-worthy dialogue, Oscar winning costumes, and a love story with more than what meets the eye.

Though Costner started with his hand on the script, it was the faster, wilier Russell who prevailed in the end, buying up all the cowboy gear in Hollywood and raking in the dough while Costner’s “Wyatt Earp” lay dead in the street.
