Why “Bald Move”?
A long time ago… no doubt over a board/card/video game, Peter did something totally unexpected. In response, Jim said the only thing that could come to him: “That’s a bald move, Picard!” Since that fateful day, it has become commonplace among their inner circle to utter that phrase when anything surprising happens. The exact origins of the phrase have been lost to history (that dirty bitch!) but the joke lives on.
History
BaldMove.com was started by Jim Jones, Peter Street and A. Ron Hubbard on March 24th, 2010. The launch was timed to coincide with the first PAX East event and the release of a PAX-related episode of Blue Yonder. However, the roots of Bald Move go back much farther than that.
In October of 2006, Jim Jones and Peter Street started the GOnGRadio.com website and the PowerPlay podcast. PowerPlay was dedicated solely to discussion of video games. After 11 episodes, the topics began to dry up so Jim and Peter shot themselves onto the dark side of the moon to rethink the situation. The desire to cast was never extinguished.
Over the next couple years, the guys threw around ideas for new sites and podcasts. However, none of them stuck.
Finally, after much deliberation, a new co-host onboard and with the power of the Earth’s sun replenishing their podcasting strength, Bald Move was born.
