Goyer, the creator and executive producer of Foundation, to ask him some of the questions we’ve had about the show thus far, as well as the questions you submitted to us. Well, the verdict is in from the USofA (as it already has been from the rest of the world) and Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Dune appears to work, even on skeptics like Jim who have been resistant to it’s Lynch-tainted charms for decades. But it is any wonder? When a movie looks this good and displays such an overwhelming amount of creativity, you just can’t help but enjoy it. Another week, another strong episode of Foundation with S01E04. The mystery of Salvor Hardin continues to unfold as Terminus is threatened, but the real meaty stuff is once again happening on Trantor, including the slab of beef that is Lee Pace. And boy, do we sink our teeth in for a big ol’ bite with another near-2-hour episode.
We really enjoyed the ambitious approach to storytelling that Foundation is employing in its third episode, “The Mathematician’s Ghost”. Apple released the first two episodes of their sci-fi epic “Foundation” this week and “epic” is exactly what they were. There are so many visual and narrative intricacies to dig into in these two hours of TV. That’s probably why it took us as much time as Apple spent making the episodes, to properly cover them. Join us next week for a regular-sized episode.
If you’ve seen it, you probably understand why we categorize 2001: A Space Odyssey as a prestige film. Yes, it takes place almost entirely in space. Yes, it has spaceships and aliens and wormholes. But it’s just so dang good that it deserves better than to be lumped in with the likes of pulpier sci-fi, like, say, an Armageddon.
