There are some scorching-hot dueling theories from your hosts, Jim and A.Ron, in this episode. Picard may have gotten cucked, but Beverly got “Cuckoo-ed”. As early-onset Jumaji syndrome sets in, your nutty hosts try to figure out how much of Picard you need to run a successful experiment.
This episode has a bounty of nostalgia. Worf continues to delight, Geordi La Forge makes his appearance, and Jack waxes poetic just like his father. Joining Geordi is LeVar Burton’s real life daughter Mica. Looks like they’re keeping Star Trek in the family. But it’s not all fun and games! Keep an eye out for those Changelings.
The quality of Star Trek: Picard is holding on this season. There are more conspiracy theories that go right to the top. Jack Crusher turns into John Wick. And A.Ron would like the record to reflect that he called the appearance of Ro Laren. Utopia doesn’t exist in this iteration of Star Trek, but at least this season is decent despite some odd dialogue.
This is not the same Star Trek that Gene Roddenberry envisioned, but there are some things to enjoy about this episode. There are some old school TNG vibes. Worf is the GOAT of the series. There’s a plot twist Jim and A.Ron didn’t see coming and Picard is getting his swear on.
Picard delivers a good episode! Between Picard’s new family members, Worf’s one-liners, and the weak medical practices, this episode has lots to unpack. When you’re dealing with a show with decades of history and plot twists both cool and nonsensical, it provides great theory fodder. In addition to their usual commentary, Jim and A.Ron have a theory crafting session that will have you laughing.
Picard is in denial about a major personal discovery. Raffi goes rogue for better or worse. The deflector dish looks oddly familiar. What’s the deal with Shaw? Is Beverly a warlord? Will all of these plot lines and details pay off by the end of the season? A.Ron and Jim are steeped in Star Trek lore, don’t worry, they’ll pause and explain their jokes when they need to.
Set phasers to “stun” and set your brain to “off”. Everyone is back! There’s a spy, a distress signal, and a fun new starship. What’s wrong with the Federation now? What’s going on with Raffie?
