Mando completes the ritual to be a recognized Mandalorian again, but that doesn’t mean he’s free from problems. There are whispers of Moff Gideon’s alleged escape. Bo-Katan wavers on her personal beliefs. And someone is collecting junk heap urinal cakes. This episode begs the question…is this just another backdoor pilot??
The quality of Star Trek: Picard is holding on this season. There are more conspiracy theories that go right to the top. Jack Crusher turns into John Wick. And A.Ron would like the record to reflect that he called the appearance of Ro Laren. Utopia doesn’t exist in this iteration of Star Trek, but at least this season is decent despite some odd dialogue.
It’s an emotionally crushing finale full of hard choices and desperate situations. The Fireflies may have gone off the deep end. We get to see the killer version of Joel people have been talking about all season. Did you catch all the video game actor cameos throughout the season?
Boy, these shows really loved their feature length pilots, didn’t they? This week’s shadowy flight takes Jay and A.Ron into the world of a real man’s: Stringfellow Hawke. Stoic, heroic, traumatized war vet, appreciator of fine wine and finer art, musically gifted, philosophically complicated, mysterious and irresistible to women, stunt pilot by day and mercenary pilot by night. It’s A LOT. Airwolf is still badass, the villain is campy fun, Archangel is cool as coolwhip in his ice cream suit and patchglasses, but nearly every scene without a helicopter is deader than Gaddafi, who may or may not appear in this episode. Btw, did you know you can like, die, just by staying outside too long? It’s TRUE!
This season of The Mandalorian is wasting no time on sidequests. There’s action and fun for the whole family. And this episode raises some interesting questions. Who is the title referring to? How would a Mandalorian helmet work for Grogu? Which droid history is correct? And Jim makes some end of season predictions.
We have a definitive answer as to how Ellie got Joel into the house. Get answers to more questions such as…. Is Ellie adopting Joel’s personality? Are the clickers too absent? Did David know about Tommy’s town? Can a clicker get rabies?
This is not the same Star Trek that Gene Roddenberry envisioned, but there are some things to enjoy about this episode. There are some old school TNG vibes. Worf is the GOAT of the series. There’s a plot twist Jim and A.Ron didn’t see coming and Picard is getting his swear on.
If you weren’t already convinced that Bella Ramsey is the perfect pick for Ellie, this episode will change your mind. As painful as it was to watch this episode the first time, it’s even creepier on a second watch. Grab a bowl of munchies, maybe somebody’s dad, and enjoy this episode of Savage Starlight!
