Jim, Cecily and A.Ron are here for a round table on Hulu’s new comedy, Ramy, and the latest two episode of Starz, American Gods. We all found Ramy to be really funny as well as insightful, and if you’ve had to struggle with your religious identity with a strict upbringing (cough, cough) we’re sure you’ll relate to the material. And then, there’s American Gods, which is all over the place, as Gods are wont to do.

Grab your sword and strap on your sandals! We’re celebrating the return of Game of Thrones by doing a season long look at the fantasy films that came before it. From the classic to the camp, we love them all! S2F2: Fantasy kicks off with Conan the Barbarian, a film that helped launch the career of one Arnold Schwarzenegger into the stratosphere. And sure, we can quibble with some of the sillier plot points happening in the margins, and some of the casting, and a lot of the hair and makeup, but Conan is a serious film with some great set pieces, an absolutely magnetic star, and it even manages to land a few points that approach the profound. Jim and A.Ron are here to break down all the action from this week’s premiere episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones, “Winterfell”. And indeed the ancestral home of House Stark houses the direwolf’s share of the action and intrigue, as characters are reunited, dragons are flown, and divisions within the forces of the Living threaten to undermine the war against the Dead. It’s clear that sharing power and cooperating is going to be a challenge, not only for Jon and Dany, but for the many different peoples who have thrown in their lot with them. We’ll be back Friday for our SpoiLORE edition that delves into the background details of the World of Ice and Fire as well as mines for hidden details that may yet remain in the source books!

Jim and I talk about our initial thoughts on Netflix’s new shows; Black Summer, Special, and You vs. Wild. We ponder the age old question, what’s harder to kill, the zombie genre or Bear Grylls?
Jim and I saw the Neil Marshall helmed, David Harbour starring 2019 reboot of Hellboy. And it’s the definition of a mixed bag. Sporting an impressively low 11% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Jim thought the movie was bad, but I borderline loved it. I have no explanation for my critical disparity, and I can see the issues with plot and humor that Jim and others are expressing but… I’ve seen a helluva lot of worse movies this year get better reviews. Am I losing my touch? Or do you just have to be a die hard Hellboy fan to admire what this movie has to offer. It’s a damn shame, because while I think everyone can agree that Harbour makes an excellent Hellboy, the movie isn’t likely to get the sequel his casting deserves.
We’re so close we can feel the dragon fire! HBO dropped a brand new trailer for the long anticipated final season of Game of Thrones yesterday, and we’re here to discuss it, in tedious detail. Spoiler warning for anyone sitting the promotional material, because we’ll be analyzing this thing frame by frame! We’ll also be discussing our plans for coverage of season 8; which we hope will be the most current and comprehensive around. Does Jon become a dragon rider? What could possibly terrify Arya? Who is the mysterious leader of the Golden Company? Why does the Mountain look like a cross between a Kong-brand dog toy and a butt plug? All these questions and more are covered!
