Bald Move Pulp - Spectre (2015)

Jim and A.Ron went out over the long weekend and treated themselves to the latest James Bond flick, Spectre. After discussing the experience itself, in which we checked out our hometown’s newest theater experience, the Eastgate Brew and View, we dish on the few charms and big disappointments in Daniel Craig’s latest outing on Her Majesty’s Service, Daniel Craig’s place in the 007 pantheon, and our relationship with the series as a whole. Massive spoilers incoming, so if you want to see this unsullied, put this pod on the back burner until you’ve had a chance to experience it yourself.

Bald Move Pulp - Stargate (1994)

Today’s commissioned podcast is on 1994’s Stargate — brought to you by Dr. Brandon Devito, official dentist of Bald Move and international man of mystery. Directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Kurt Russell and James Spader, it is a star spanning intergalactic tale of ancient Egyptian themed aliens, slip-shod archaeology, and gun toting shepherd boys. The boys ponder how movies change as we age, Emmerich’s professional toolkit, the massive flaws in both Ra’s and team Stargate’s (SG-1?) plans. A good time is had by all.

Direct - Quentin Tarantino – Kill Bill vol. 2

The second installment of the Kill Bill series brings us incredible characters, awesome fights, and an intense Texas funeral. Eric and Levi surely enjoyed this cinematic experience. QT seems to be honing his strong voice and concrete style while paying homage to the flicks that excited him throughout his lifetime. It’s an impressive piece of work. Join us next week for Death Proof.

Direct - Quentin Tarantino – Jackie Brown

Time to revisit one of Tarantino’s most overlooked and most interesting films. Like most QT pictures, Jackie Brown is a movie that references the past while living firmly within the era it’s set. In this ‘cast, Eric and Levi walk through the deep characters, the twisting plot, and the powerhouse performances of this (maybe too long) cinematic experience. Join us next week for Kill Bill vol. 1.

Bald Move Prestige - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Special thanks to Tyler Shumway for commissioning this podcast, on 2004’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind.  If you haven’t seen it, I suggest doing so before you listen to the cast, as it’s a neat little movie with a lot of twists and turns that we’ll spoil mercilessly.  Written by Charlie Kaufman and starring Jim Carey, Kate Winslet, and Elijah Wood among others, it’s a meditation on relationships and loss and why sometimes things just don’t work out, or maybe they can?  We’ve got our opinions about the answers the movie has to offer, but I imagine there are lots of alternate solutions.

Bald Move Pulp - The Martian (2015)

Jim and A.Ron saw Ridley Scott’s “The Martian” last night, starring Matt Damon, and have a lot to say about it. Note, the first part of the podcast is spoiler free, but then when we say we’re about to spoil things, that’s your cue to get out while the getting is good. Along the way, we talk about the trailers we saw for The Revenant, The Big Short, Joy, and Concussion.

Bald Move Prestige - The Color Purple (1985)

Special thanks to D’Nique G, who commissioned us to watch the 1985 Steven Spielberg film, “The Color Purple”, based on the novel by Alice Walker and starring Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Danny Glover. While we found some of the tonal shifts and musical choices in the first half bizarre, the movie nevertheless drew us into the story of one woman’s triumph over countless adversities, and the ending of this movie has a heart as big, wide, and bright as Celie’s smile.
