This week we examine Kevin Costner’s 100% efficient digestive tract, online schooling, conspiracy theories we flirted with, what we think about the name “Bald Move” 10 years in, and a ton of other listener questions.
We seem to be on a Vietnam kick with a couple of our movie choices lately. Oliver Stone’s 1989 adaptation of Vietnam veteran Ron Kovic’s autobiography of the same name, recounting his journey from a combat-thirsty young man to a disabled anti-war activist, is worthy of the two academy awards it won. Join us for a discussion about the film, this American folly, and its lingering effects on our society today.
We’ve seen all of Kingdom season 2 now and we’re ready to talk about it. We also have a Patreon question about our thoughts on Legion and some discussion about A.ron’s experience with The Last of Us 2.
In an episode of The Walking Dead that’s good enough to please no one, it’s all about whether you’re going to make Negan a martyr and whether Daryl and Rick can climb out of their desperate pit of emotion. I dunno. Daryl’s sidewalls are pretty high and Rick’s roots are as shaky as Negan’s grip on sanity.
A.Ron talks about his Father’s Day experience, including a few confessions. Jim repairs his Aeron (not a typo). Potential new holidays to replace broken ones. The politics of being apolitical. Freestyle canoeing. Last of Us 2 thoughts, and much more.
This week we take a look at Ryan Coogler’s first feature film, Fruitvale Station, about the 2009 murder of Oscar Grant. It is competently directed by Coogler but the impeccable performances by recognizable names such as Octavia Spencer and Michael B. Jordan, as well as its tragically-evergreen relevance, are what really make the film a must-see.
A couple of Netflix shows today. We’ve seen all there is to see of Dark and we’re ready to talk about it leading up to the release of the third season this Saturday. Also, we gush about the first half of season 2 of the ancient-Korean period-action-political-drama-zombie series, Kingdom.
This week we talk about Juneteenth, the wonders of baking soda and super glue, stinky foods, really really long trails, and much more.
A.Ron and Kim Renfro sit down to talk about Dark season 2 and the previews for season 3. Thank you to Kim for joining us. A.Ron and I will be back next week for another discussion about season 2 just for club members.
