Hey guys! New show, new format. I’m going to do the instant review, and Jim and I will be doing original content twice or thrice a week. We’ll record the podcast and release it probably Tuesdays.
So, Season Two premier. I liked it. Still not quite as good as the pilot episode, but had some effective scenes and emotion.
I think I detected a theme of choice and taking choices. Dale took Andrea’s choice to die away. Dale took her gun. Dale takes the choice to leave the little girl behind away from the group.
Personally, I don’t think Andrea has a point. Dale didn’t try to stop her. He just said he didn’t want to live if she didn’t. How did he take her choice away when you could just as easily argue that she took her choice away?
- Dale’s only job is spotter. How the holy hell did he not see that herd a mile away? I mean, really.
- The “star” zombies were really good in this ep, although some of the “extra” zombies were pretty rough looking.
- Anytime anyone makes a plea based on emotion and not logic in this group “This is a graveyard. It don’t feel right.” They should be immediately kicked out of the group. Just my opinion, but god almighty does that drive me crazy.
- I love seeing Darryl be a badass more than anyone else in this show. That kill with the screwdriver was insane.
- Why is Rick wear his full sheriff’s uniform at this point?
- Rick and Lori’s kid kinda creeps me out. Anyone else?
- They totally played the “gut the Zombie” bit as comedy, right? Similar to last year’s “coat ourselves in Zombie guts” sequence. The sound effects and amount of effort required to slash a zombie open are exaggerated for laughs, which is an odd, but admittedly effective choice.
- The “my little girl got left in the woods” scene. Was it effective? I want to say yes, even though I don’t think it was particularly well written, but it was well acted, and as a parent, the concept was horrifying. Now that I think about it, I think the mom might have even underplayed the scenes this week. Maybe that is why I’m on the fence a bit with it. I think she could have really lost her shit.
- When they split the group up, it was retarded that they sent Rick and Shane to search for the girl. Darryl is the better woodsman, and Rick is the group leader/father of a child. I kind of think that the mom in this was a bit too passive stopping looking for her little girl. The optimum tracking group should have been Shane and Darryl.
- Wouldn’t that church bell bring every zombie around within miles?
- What kind of hunter doesn’t notice a child walking super duper slowly up behind the animal he’s shooting at. Talk about bad luck. What are the odds something like that would happen, in a Zombie apocalypse?
We’ll have lots more on the podcast Tuesday. We don’t have an iTunes feed yet, it should be up before the cast hits. We’ll keep you posted on that. The best way to keep in touch with us right now is at Facebook, on Twitter, or by sending us an email. We’d love to hear what you think, any speculation you have for this season, what you want to see, what you don’t want to see.
Looking forward to experiencing this mini-season with all of you! See ya Tuesday!
