The news about the AMC / Sony dispute is still pouring out. Deadline Hollywood says not only is Sony pushing for 13 episodes, they might be pushing for 20 episodes or a sixth season. AMC presumably would like it to be 7-8. So, at this point, I don’t think anyone is representing the creative team. The LA Times are making it sound as if the creative teams at Walking Dead and Breaking Bad are grumbling that Matt Weiner’s Mad Men has stole all their budget. There’s a lot of truth in this article. AMC has dumped a ton of money into their original shows, and have cleaned up awards and critical acclaim. But are they making money? As a fan, I only care so much as it affects my shows, so yeah, I want them to make money, so long as they are the same high quality.
Possible wild card? Gilligan’s contract with Sony is up this season.
Alan Sepinwall and Dan Fienburg’s podcast is up. They start dishing on Breaking Bad around the 1:02 mark.
This is a very interesting analysis / take by a commentor at IMDB, that maps the five seasons of Breaking Bad onto the five stages of grief, which were originally the five stages of dealing with your own death.
Marie’s new blog, “Puerto Rico is Just a Territory”, is up. Sometimes, I don’t know what the writers are trying to do with these things. This is a nice story, that adds a bit more color to Hank and Marie’s relationship, but so what? Did it really happen? Will it be referenced in a show? Why add the defiant part about the spoon at the end?
Light news day, over all. I expect tomorrow to be lighter, since Friday usually is. Did I miss something? Let me know! Also, we got to 55 iTunes reviews less than 2 days after the cast was released! We clawed our way back to #2 on iTunes N&N. Again, thanks so much for your support.
