Breaking Good – 509 – “Blood Money” – Jim’s Instant Take

I feel like a weiner dog stretched at both ends trying to come up with something fresh to say about tonight’s episode of Breaking Bad, “Blood Money”, without repeating myself. Lucky for me this show outpaces a Star Trek replicator set to to “blueberry pie”.

I couldn’t be happier with the premiere of the final season. It took a very different form than I expected but it delivered on a level that I couldn’t have predicted. Dean Norris was easily the shining star of this episode. The hate in his eyes as he stared down Heisenberg was incredible. Those scenes would have been easy to overact but he didn’t. He was just perfect. Of all the plot threads that are still hanging I’m most interested in his because of the impossible position he’s in.

Where Jesse goes from here is the other big question for me. Clearly he’s had enough of this blood money and just wants it gone. How will he pay for his pizzas and the filming of Badger’s excellent episode of Star Trek? Will Walt let him out of the vice-like grip he’s had on his life for the past year and a half? Jesse is very much in limbo and I have no idea where he will end up. I’ll enjoy the ride though.

Skyler is in full Heisenberg mode herself in this episode, though for different reasons. She doesn’t want Lydia mucking up Walt’s newfound peace so she lays down the law in a moment that’s very reminiscent of the scene in Season 2 where Walt tells the cooks at the hardware store to “stay out of my territory”.

That’s all for now. If you’re itching for more content, we have the Instant Take podcast for 601 – “Blood Money” already posted and we’ll be releasing our full standard podcast late Tuesday night.
